Rain Garden

Rain Garden

A research study conducted on this site showed that rain gardens planted with prairie plants can improve soil structure and soil health when compared to turf grass alone. Benefits include greater stormwater infiltration rates, more plant-soil interactions, and improved effectiveness of the rain garden over time.

Undeveloped natural areas like Owen Conservation Park reduce stormwater runoff and reduce flooding risks to nearby neighborhoods. Deep-rooted native plants build and stabilize the soil to help infiltrate, hold, and filter stormwater, resulting in cleaner, more manageable waterways.
